Special Juvenile Police Units

Special Juvenile Police Unit is a unit of the police force designated for handling juveniles at district level.  SJPU consists of five members, each Special Juvenile Police Unit is headed by an officer not below the rank of Police Inspector designated as “Senior Child Welfare Officer (Sr.CWO)” and two police constables are deputed to the Special Juvenile Police Units to handle cases and assist in documentation and reporting. The two Social Workers appointed at the District Child Protection Unit shall also assist the Senior Child Welfare Officer at the Special Juvenile Police Units and the Child Welfare Officers at the police stations in handling cases relating to children. (828 police stations). 40 Special Juvenile Police Units are constituted by the police Department.
