In order to bring the women and children residing in correctional institutions in to the mainstream of society   a scheme was formilated to  provide skill  development and vocational training for the rehabilitation of  destitute, orphan, deserted women and addition to the regular education that  they are provided at present.

Women and children of correctional institutions can undergo training   in any of the reputed training centres, or in training programmes conducted in the premises of the institutions itself.  Training in cycle repair, mobile repair, auto mobile repair, plumbing, barbending, hair cutting, computer training, agarbathi and agarbathi tube making, driving, food conservation, leather bag making, beautician, tailoring, home nursing, zari work, ready made garments. 

Each person is eligible  for only two training programmes in a year.  In addition to this they can attend the group training programme.  Financial assistance to a maximum  extent of Rs.10,000/- per inmate is given for individual training.  Children who have passed SSLC can undertake diploma courses in Industrial Training Institutes.  An amount of Rs 3.22 lakhs was incurred as against an allocation of Rs. 20 lakhs.
